After graduating with a BSc in Genetics from the University of Edinburgh, Dr. Ruman Rahman completed a PhD in Molecular Biology at the Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh. He joined the Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre, University of Nottingham, as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate in 2007. After receiving the Nottingham Advanced Research Fellowship for the Faculty of Medicine in 2011, Dr. Rahman was appointed Assistant Professor in October 2013 and awarded the British Neuro-Oncology Society Young Investigator of the Year in 2014. He is currently an Associate Professor of Molecular Neuro-Oncology at the University of Nottingham’s new flagship Biodiscovery Institute.
His research team focuses on intra-tumour genomic heterogeneity and neurosurgically applied drug delivery for childhood and adult brain cancers, with a particular emphasis on infiltrative disease, supported by a grant portfolio of £4.5M over the past 5 years. His affiliation to professional bodies includes membership on the Grant Evaluation Committee for the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) and Society for Neuro-Oncology Conference Scientific Review Committee. Ruman is Chair of the international Children's Brain Tumour Drug Delivery Consortium which spans leading institutions across Europe and North America, and co-Chair of the British Neuro-Oncology Society Research Subcommittee.
